Daily Summary Warning - June 30th, 2023
The earthquake activity (M6+ eccentricity = imbalance) in
Asia-Pacific is less than average at 1.25 today (medium) compared with the
typical high month of June average of 1.37 (note the lunar Phase Ratio (PR) is now
(since 23rd Feb) at PR>1 so that large quakes are more likely in
the periods close to full moon and new moon. The activity in the last 2 weeks
in Asia-Pacific region is still moderately high with M5+ almost every day and one
or more M6+ events every two to three weeks.
Results from Yesterday 29th June
2023- 0hrs to 24hrs UTC):
Asia-Pacific: according to our information there were a total of 8 events of M4+
and 4 events of M4.5+ with 2 events of M5+ (Tajikistan, Phils-Leyte) in the
region under consideration. Of these 11 out of 14 events could be associated
with our hourly forecasts. Overall, the activity in the region was low to moderate,
with strength as expected as the forecast indicated some events in the M5+
level.
America: according to our information there were a total of 8 events of M4+
and 2 events of M4.5+ in this area during the 24-hour period. Of these, 10 of 10 events could be associated
with our hourly forecasts. Overall, the activity in the region was low to
moderate as expected. There were total of 37 ineffective forecasts for this
period (M4+ event/ forecast rate 23%).
Europe/Africa: - 2 x M4+ and 0 x M4.5+ events were noted in this region during
the 24-hour period, 2 of which could be identified with our hourly forecasts
for the day. So that activity was low as expected. There were total of 44 ineffective
hourly forecasts for this period (M4+ event/ forecast rate 5%).
Forecast for Today:
Today 30th June 2023 (UTC/GMT), the overall daily M5+
probability in Asia- Pacific is low 24% (am) to high 45% (pm) and the M5+
stress eccentricity is 2.0 (medium) which indicates widespread activity in
the region today. The lunar phase strength is 48% (medium), so that M4+ to M5.5
+ intensity quakes are expected in Asia-Pacific today.
Asia-Pacific: probability (2.0=max:M5+ stress transfer/ %= overall incl. lunar)
today is for N/S Sumatra/ Nicobar/Myanmar (Low (am)/High (pm)), 1.5/22%(am)
/37% (pm)), Java (Low/Med-lo, 0.6/22%/25%), Gensan/ Davao/ S. of Phils.
(Medium/ Medium, 0.8/30%/31%), Surigao/Samar (Medium/Med-lo,
1.9/32%/24%), Manila/Batangas/ Mindoro (Medium/Med-hi, 0.3/23%/27%),
Baguio (Medium/ Medium, 2.0/28%/30%), Taiwan/Ryukyu (Low/Medium,
0.1/20%/32%), Kyushu, Izu/Bonin isles (Med-Lo, 0.6, 24%/26%), E
Honshu/ Tokyo (Medium /Medium, 1.6/35%/36%), Hokkaido/Kuril (Medium/Med-hi,
0.9/32%/34%).
America: Activity has been less than average, recently with M4.5+ daily and
M6+ every 4 weeks. – low activity most likely
M4+ to M4.5+ today: S Mexico, SC/NC Chile, N/S/C Peru, NW
Argentina, Alaska, Off N. California, Baja, Off Oregon, Guatemala,
El Salvador, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Ecuador, S. Bolivia, W.
Brazil, S. Sandwich Isles, Venezuela.
Europe/Africa: - most likely M4+ to M4.5+ - low activity today –Aegean, Albania, Algeria, Ascension Island, Austria, N/C/S.
Italy, S. Greece, Crete, Cyprus, Slovenia, Bosnia, Croatia, Macedonia, NW/NC/CE/SC
Turkey, Iran, Namibia, Tanzania, N. Mid-Atlantic Ridge, Reykjanes Ridge,
Ethiopia, Zambia, Bouvet Island.
